Boys Track Wins Regional Championship for Second Straight Year

Enid, OK - The Bethany boys track team headed to face off against 14 other schools today at the 4A Regional and they came away as the champions for the second straight year. The Bronchos fought through some adversity on Saturday to secure the program's first back-to-back Regional Championship since 2006 and 2007. Bethany started the day with big point pickups from the Boys 3200 Meter Relay (Cole Powell, Levi Johnson, Keegan Ross, and Findlay Neal), the Long Jump (Taylor Heim) and a second-place finish by Ruslan Calderon in the High Jump.

There was a setback though in the 800-meter Relay as they failed to qualify for the State Championships in a race where they had the fastest time in the state so far this season. Fortunately, they turned right back around and focused their energy on the 400 Meter Relay and upset top-seeded Elk City to secure the Regional Gold Medal.

It was truly a team effort the rest of the day with points coming from a variety of individuals as Bethany battled back and forth with Elk City and Cushing for the points lead. As it always does, the points battle came down to the last event, the mile relay. Bethany (85 Points) held a slight edge over Elk City (83 Points) and Cushing (65.5 Points). The 1600 Meter Relay team of Jacob Magirowsky, Bryson Miller, Morgan Clark, and Taylor Heim finished in 3rd place and secured enough points to hold back a late charge from Cushing to seal the school's second straight Class 4A Boys Regional Championship.

Here is a summary of all of the Bethany Scoring for the Regional:
