Track Teams Make Strong Showing at Season Opening Meet

Bethany's Carson Sandvik cruises to victory in the 3200 Meter Run

Ardmore, OK - Plainview HS was the site of the opening meet of the season for Bethany's Track & Field teams. Both teams had strong showings on the day in what was a premier early season meet with some historically strong teams in the state of Oklahoma. The girls team finished in 4th place on the day out of 12 teams falling only to defending class 4A State Champion Plainview, Durant (5A), and Putnam City North (6A). The boys team finished in 5th place out of 12 teams behind Putnam City North (6A) and three teams who all finished in the top four at their state championships a year ago Plainview (4A), Marietta (3A), and OCS (3A).

The standout performance of the day on the girls side was hurdler Sylvia Lambert who won medals in both the 100 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles. Lambert ran a strong times of 17.24 in the 100 Meter Hurdles and 49.23 in the 300 Meter Hurdles. Both of those times set Lambert up for success down the road against 4A competition. Sophomore Kelsey Knox also ran well on the day bringing home a 3rd place finish in the 200 meter dash. Lambert and Knox also teamed up with Freshman Kaylen King and Sophomore Abigail Parent to go 2nd place in the mile relay to end the meet.

On the boys side the Bronchos' points were spread out nicely between the distance events and the sprint events. Senior Carson Sandvik brought home a win in the 3200 Meter Run by running 10:07.45 which is a spectacular early season time. His teammate Cameron Jernigan also ran well in the two mile finishing in 5th place. The boys team also ran well in all three relays on the day, the 4 x 200, 4 x 400, and 4 x 800 coming away with all top five finishes in what was a very competitive early season meet against strong competition. Manuel Maya, a junior, also ran well and came away with a 3rd place finish by running 17.93 in the 110 Meter Hurdles. The 200 Meter Dash was also a strong point for the Bronchos on this day as both Scott Lynch (2nd Place) and Jackson Howard (4th Place) finished in the points.
