Girls Track Finishes 5th in Regional

Sylvia Lambert cruises to a 3rd place finish in the 300 Meter Hurdles in the Regional Championships at Chisholm. Lambert also qualified for state in the 100 Meter Hurdles, High Jump, and 4 x 400 Meter Relay.

Enid, OK - The Bethany track teams traveled to Chisholm HS in Enid, OK Saturday to compete in the Class 4A Regional Track Championship. The girls team continued running their best of the year as they finished 5th out of the 15 teams at the regional. This was a good finish for Bethany as three of the top six teams in the state were competing in this regional, making it one of the tougher ones out of the four regional meets statewide. In Oklahoma, athletes who finish in the top three at the regional championship advance to the State Championship. After the top three spots are advanced the next four best times from all of the regionals around the state also advance to create a field of 16 athletes at the State Championships.

The Lady Bronchos qualified three relays for the state meet based on their performances at the regional meet. First, the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of Cameron Stewart, Kelsey Knox, Abigail Parent, and Carissa Burns qualified by finishing in 2nd place. The 4 x 400 Meter Relay team also ran their best time of the year to qualify at 4:16.42. That relay is made up of Knox, Olivia Parent, Sylvia Lambert, and Kaylen King. Finally, the 4 x 800 Meter Relay team finished in 4th place, but qualified as an at-large qualifier based on their time of 10:57.24. On that relay Olivia Parent was joined by McKenzie Jernigan, Alicia Garrett, and Peyton King.

Several individuals also qualified for the state championships including Sylvia Lambert in three different individual events. Lambert qualified in the 100 Meter Hurdles (3rd), 300 Meter Hurdles (3rd), and High Jump (2nd). She ran season's best times in both hurdle events in what was a very tough regional as two of the top hurdlers in the state were also at the same regional, including defending state champion McKenna Parker from Tuttle. The tough competition should set Lambert up for great finishes at the state meet later this week. Freshman Carissa Burns also qualified in the 100 Meter Dash as the time of 12.92 from her 5th place finish was good enough for an at-large qualifier spot. Another Freshman, Kaylen King, also had a personal record time in the 400 Meter Dash on the day of 1:02.61 which was good for a 4th place finish, but also got her an at-large qualifier spot in the state meet later this week.

The state championships for Class 4A will be held at Moore High School in Moore, OK on May 4-5, 2018. We will post a full schedule of Bethany qualifiers and events here on BethanyBronchos.com later this week. Click below for the full results from this past weekends Regional Championships.
