Bronchos Roll Past Chisholm to Move to 2-0

Bethany's Jackson Howard tackles a Chisholm wide receiver to break up the pass.

Bethany, OK - It was opening night last Friday in Bethany and the Bronchos (4A-#8) did not disappoint as they rolled to a 40-6 victory over Chisholm (2A). The Longhorns have had a lot of success with 10 win seasons each of the last five years including two trips to the state semi-finals, but they have a young squad this year and move to 0-3 on the season with the loss. The Bronchos move to 2-0 with the victory after their season opening victory over Elk City (4A).

As they did against Elk City, Bethany started fast against the Longhorns scoring 27 points in the first quarter while holding Chisholm to no first downs. Ben Lawson took the opening kickoffs all the way down to the Chisholm 28 yard line before quarterback Sam Brandt got lose on the second play from scrimmage for a 28 yard touchdown run. On the very next possession Brandt connected with wide receiver Jackson Howard on a 43 yard touchdown pass to make the Broncho lead 14-0. It was then the Bethany running back, Jacob Kyle, who took over the second half of the quarter as he scored on touchdown runs from 31 yards and 24 yards out, respectively. While the offensive explosion was taking place the Bethany defense was racking up three & outs against the Chisholm offense, who was without it's starting quarterback due to injury. The Broncho defense allowed just under 50 yards on the game with the varsity exited the game late in the third quarter.

Sam Brandt's night finished in the 3rd quarter after he threw a second touchdown pass to Lawson Stout on a 19 yard connection to give Bethany a 34-0 lead. Early in the fourth quarter Bethany tacked on a Nate Jones touchdown run from eight yards out to take a 40-0 lead. Chisholm did get on the board with three minutes left in the contest on a 32 yard run by Lane Smith which made the final score 40-6. Bethany travels to take on Kingfisher (3A-#5) on September 14 at 7:30 PM while Chisholm has the week off before traveling to Perry on September 21.
