Lady Bronchos Finish as Runner Up in Bethany Invitational

Bethany, OK - The Lady Bronchos hosted their annual Bethany Invitational Tournament this past weekend and had a strong performance, finishing as the Runner Up. The Bronchos fell to Ponca City (6A) in the championship game, 2-1 on Saturday. Prior to the championship the Lady Bronchos looked strong on the weekend, finishing first place in their pool by winning all four pool play games. This is the Lady Bronchos' highest finish in their own tournament in over five years.

On the opening day of the tournament the Lady Bronchos (4A) got two big wins over the OKC Broncos and Pauls Valley (4A). Bethany got a hard fought 7-6 victory over the OKC Broncos in the opening game and then came back later in the day with a big 7-1 victory over Pauls Valley. On the second day of the tournament Bethany got maybe their most impressive win of the weekend, knocking off Kremlin-Hillsdale who was the #9 ranked team in Class B. This close matchup finished with the Lady Bronchos on top, 2-1. In the final pool play game Bethany continued their good play, knocking off Southeast (5A) by a final tally of 13-1.

Also, prior to the tournament last week the Lady Bronchos got a big, 5-1 win over Elgin (4A) in a rescheduled contest. Jadyn Barger led the Lady Bronchos that day on the mound with 10 strikeouts and by hitting a huge two run home run in the 4th inning. That win keeps the Lady Bronchos' hopes alive to host a bi-district playoff series in just a couple of weeks. The ability to host will likely be decided by Bethany's return trip on Elgin on September 22.
