Bethany Wins Tournament Championship Over #4 Holland Hall

Bethany's Sam Brandt defends Holland Hall in the championship game of the Bethany Classic.

Bethany, OK - The Bethany Bronchos (4A-#18) came into the 17th Annual Bethany Basketball Classic as the #2 seed behind top seeded Holland Hall (4A-#4), but after the championship game Saturday night it was the Bronchos who came away with the championship trophy, beating the Dutch 43-38.

Bethany started the tournament off on a high note taking care of McLoud (4A-UR) 77-41 in the opening round. The semi-final matchup proved to be much more difficult though as Bethany had to fend off a talented HFC Warriors Homeschool team 42-41. The Bronchos trailed in that one with just eight seconds remaining before senior guard Brennan Burns went coast to coast to hit a contested layup as time expired. That layup gave Bethany the victory and sent them to the Bethany Classic championship game for the 3rd straight year.

In the championship game the Bronchos controlled things from the start, leading by as many as 10 points in the first half behind great play from Brennan Burns and Michal Wooldridge. The Dutch would come back though and pull to within just a couple of points near the end of the game, but clutch play by the Bronchos allowed them to hold in for a 43-38 victory over the #4 ranked team in Class 4A.
