Lady Bronchos Soccer Finishes Bethany Tournament in 4th Place

Senior Kendrie Escoe (23) gets congratulated by teammates Nicole McDonald and Kylie Bussert after scoring the first Bethany goal for the tournament.

Bethany, OK - The Lady Bronchos soccer team finished in 4th place in their home tournament this past weekend. In the opening game of the tournament they got an impressive win over Dove Science Academy, despite Dove getting on the board first in the game. After trailing early though Bethany scored four unanswered goals by seniors Kendie Escoe, Alyssa Carmack, and Teeka Smith as well as sophomore Reagan Conrad. Dove scored again towards the end of the contest, but Bethany held on for a 4-2 victory.

In the semi-final matchup Bethany faced off against 4A powerhouse Santa Fe South. Bethany ended up falling by a final score of 3-0, but they did feel this showed improvement as Santa Fe South beat Bethany in a regular season matchup just a week before 6-0. Santa Fe South was the Class 5A state runner up in 2017 and Bethany will not face them again this season.

Bethany then moved into the 3rd place game against Woodward on Saturday and despite controlling the time of possession for a majority of the game ended up falling 1-0. The Lady Bronchos committed a foul in the box late in the game which gave Woodward a penalty kick which was the only goal scored on the day. This loss gave the Lady Bronchos a 4th place finish in the tournament.

The Lady Bronchos will return to action versus Crooked Oak on Friday, April 6 provided the Oklahoma Education Strike ends by that point. Crooked Oak is not participating in activities during the strike. If a strike continues past April 6 a makeup date will be worked out between the two schools and announced here on the website.
