Girls and Boys Basketball Fall to Mannford to End the Season

Harrah, OK - Both the Bethany girls and boys basketball teams won their opening regional tournament game on Friday, but unfortunately that success was short lived as both teams fell on Saturday to end the 2017-2018 basketball seasons for the Bronchos and Lady Bronchos. Both the boys and girls team were matched up with Mannford in these regional tournament loser's bracket games.

In the girls game the Lady Bronchos once again played a strong first half and went into halftime down just 22-18 to a Mannford team that came in with a winning record on the season. But it was the third quarter that was once again the Achilles heel for Bethany as Mannford outscored the Lady Bronchos 11-3 to take a 12 point lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bronchos did respond and cut the Mannford lead to as small as five points with about four minutes to play, but they weren't able to get any closer in the late stages, eventually falling 48-36. The Lady Bronchos end the season with a final record of 6-19 in what was a season of up's and downs. Bethany's schedule was brutal and included 12 games against ranked opponents out of the 25 games played and 17 of the 25 opponents are still alive in the playoffs heading in the final round of the regional tournament.

The boys game was a close battle between Bethany (4A-#18) and Mannford (4A-#6). Mannford, who was upset Friday night by the regional host Harrah, came into the game with an impressive record of 23-2 on the season and they played like a great team down the stretch of the game. The game was close the entire way and with five minutes to play Bethany jumped to a 38-36 advantage over the sixth ranked team in the state, but Mannford owned the rest of the game outscoring the Bronchos 18-6 the rest of the way. With the loss Bethany finishes the season with a overall record of 16-9.
