Bronchos Win Canadian Valley Conference Championship

Paul’s Valley, OK - The Bethany boys track & field team continued their superb season this past week as they claimed the Canadian Valley Conference Championship with a 10 point victory over Marlow. The Bronchos finished with 151 points to Marlow's 141. Tuttle finished in third place with 96 points. The Bronchos had a nice day with 2nd place finishes from all four relays in the meet including the 4 x 100 team of Lawson Stout, Jalen Beaver, Riley Osborne, and Zack Copeland and the 4 x 200 relay team of Scott Lynch, Jackson Howard, Hunter Reimers, and Beaver. The 4 x 400 team of Jeremiah Martinez, Howard, Lynch, and Reimers also ran a season's best time of 3:33.12 to finish as the runner up while the 4 x 800 team of Blake Balenseifen, Jordan Flinton, David Miller, and Martinez also ran a season's best time of 8:33.22.

The Bronchos also brought home two individual championships on the day that scored valuable points for the team including Lawson Stout in the 110 Meter Hurdles and Jeremiah Martinez in the 800 Meter Run. In other events Blake Balenseifen brought home a runner up finish in the 1600 Meter Run, while Chapman Neal had a 4th place finish in both the 1600 Meter Run and the 3200 Meter Run. Jalen Beaver finished as the runner up in the 100 Meter Dash and also garnered a 4th place finish in the Long Jump. Both Reimers and Copeland scored points for the team in the 400 Meter Dash with Reimers finishing in 3rd place and Copeland in 6th. Copeland also added a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump to his day of action, while David Miller had a 4th place finish in the 800 Meter Run. Both Jackson Howard and Scott Lynch finished as medalists in the 200 Meter Dash as they came home in 3rd and 4th, respectively. Aaron Sailer and Evan Rothwell also contributed important points to the championship in the throwing events. Sailer finished as the 4th place finisher in the shot put with a throw of 42'2.5" while Rothwell finished in 3rd place in the discus with a 126'4" throw.

The Bethany Lady Bronchos also had a good showing, finishing in 5th place overall in the meet with 68 points. Tuttle was the conference champion with 137 points. On the ladies side they were led by two strong relay finishes. The 4 x 400 relay team finished as the runner up and was comprised of Sylvia Lambert, Kaylen King, Kelsey Knox, and Abigail Parent. The 4 x 200 team of King, Knox, Carissa Burns, and Cameron Stewart also brought home a 3rd place finish as they ran a season's best time of 1:50.43. Lambert also brought home the medals in individual events with a 3rd place finish in both hurdles races as well as another 3rd place finish in the high jump. Kaylen King finished in 3rd place in the 800 meter run while Carissa Burns finished in 4th place in the 200 meter dash and 6th place in the 100 meter dash. In the throwing events Caitlyn Vogel and Sydney Walstad brought home a 5th and 6th place finish, respectively. Finally, the 4 x 800 team of Peyton King, Jessie Harris, Alicia Garrett, and Abigail Parent finished in 4th place overall.

The Bethany track teams will now head to the Class 4A Regional Championships which will take place on Saturday, April 27 at Checotah High School in Checotah, OK.
