Bethany Goes 2-1 Over the Weekend

Bethany takes on 4A Powerhouse Tuttle

Bethany, OK - It's been a busy week for Bethany baseball as they have played five games in the past five days. After dominating a series earlier in the week against district foe Seminole the Bronchos went on to go 2-1 the rest of the week with wins over Newcastle (4A) and Bishop McGuinness (5A).

The first game of the weekend stretch was Thursday evening as Bethany traveled to Newcastle to take on the Racers. Newcastle actually carried a little momentum out of the first inning as they scored in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Bronchos would go on to score 10 runs over the next three innings to stretch the lead to 10-1 heading into the 5th. Diego Ramirez was solid on the mound as he pitched a complete game for the Bronchos who would go on to score two more runs to win by a final score of 12-4. Freshman Payton Tolle was fantastic from the plate as he hit two home runs in the game and his teammate Tyler Broyles added three hits of his own.

The Bronchos went on the road again on Friday to take on Bishop McGuinness in a game that was a scoring fest for both teams. The Bronchos scored five runs in the opening inning and would control the game the rest of the way. They added a seven run 5th inning to open up a 16-5 lead in the game before committing 10 errors in the late stages of the game which allowed the Irish to make a comeback. The Bronchos had four home runs on the day, two by senior Connor Walstad and two by freshman Payton Tolle. Tyle Broyles also had three hits of his own, while Jake Adams, Diego Ramirez, and Dylan Scalice each added two hits each. After McGuinness made a comeback to get within just a couple of runs Bethany stretched the lead back out again and finished off with a 21-13 victory.

Finally, on Saturday the Bronchos returned home to take on Tuttle, a team Bethany knocked out of the playoffs last year. In the first inning the Bethany defense was spectacular, getting out of a bases loaded jam to move on to the 2nd. Unfortunately for the Bronchos, Tuttle got hot in the top of the 2nd and scored three runs before adding a fourth run in the 3rd inning. Bethany did answer with two runs of their own in the 3rd and 4th innings, but it wasn't enough as Tuttle hit their second home run of the day in the top of the 6th to seal the victory, 6-2. Senior Connor Walstad and sophomore Hayden Stoops combined for a solid performance on the mound, but the bats just weren't clicking for the Bronchos.

Bethany will play in a spring break tournament at Tuttle next week from Wednesday through Saturday.
